Desperate times call for desperate measures and that was the case for a group of Liverpool fans who apparently attempted to disrupt Barcelona’s preparations for their Champions League clash with a late-night fireworks show.

It’s becoming one of the most common tricks in the book for home fans desperately seeking to disrupt the away team’s preparations for big games, and Liverpool fans appear to have resorted to it by setting off fireworks outside the Hilton hotel where Barcelona players including star man Lionel Messi are staying ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Footage circulating on social media reportedly shows fans launching the noisy display outside the hotel, with one man heard saying “wake-up call for Mr. Messi.”

Other videos show fireworks going off in the area reportedly at 2.30 in the morning.

Liverpool fans’ desperation comes as their team is seeking to overcome a 3-0 deficit from the first leg, when former Reds striker Luis Suarez scored and Messi bagged a brace – the second of which was an incredible 30-yard free-kick.

Suarez was criticized by Liverpool fans for celebrating the goal against his former club, but has vowed not to do so should he net in tonight's match at Anfield.

Liverpool’s hopes of pulling off an unlikely reverse to reach the final took a huge blow this week when Jurgen Klopp confirmed that star strikers Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino would both miss Tuesday’s game.

Firmino is still struggling with the groin injury which meant he was forced to start the first leg on the bench, while Salah is ruled out after suffering concussion during the Premier League win against Newcastle at the weekend.

To make matters worse for Reds fans on the domestic front, Premier League title rivals Manchester City picked up a vital win against Leicester on Monday night, meaning a victory on the final day of the season will hand them the title.

Fireworks from the fans are one thing, but Liverpool will need something explosive on the pitch both tonight and on Sunday to stand any chance of ending the season with some silverware.
