Several correspondents are leaving one of Russia’s leading business dailies, Kommersant, due to violating its editorial standards, Vladimir Zhelonkin, the paper’s editor-in-chief, said.

Zhelonkin didn’t elaborate on the wrongdoing committed by the sacked employees in an interview with Vedomosti, but special correspondent Ivan Safronov wrote in a Facebook post that he and the head of Kommersant’s political department, Maksim Ivanov, were told to leave in accordance with a decision from the shareholders.

The firing is linked to an April 17 article about Valentina Matviyenko’s possible departure from the speaker position at Russia’s Federation Council, Safronov said. The piece claimed that she would be replaced by Foreign Intelligence Service head Sergey Naryshkin. The report was refuted by those mentioned in it, with both Matviyenko and Naryshkin still remaining in their jobs.

Eleven more Kommersant journalists have filed resignations in solidarity with their fired colleagues, Gleb Cherkasov,  Kommersant ‘s deputy editor-in-chief, said in a Facebook post.
