mo4ch:>'Liability': David De Gea under fire after another howler dents Manchester United's UCL hopes | Mo4ch News

Manchester United's Champions League hopes are on life support after another David De Gea error gifted Chelsea's Marcos Alonso an equalizing goal at Old Trafford on Sunday, prompting fans to debate if he is still the world's best.

The Spanish international parried a long range Antonio Rudiger effort into the path of the on-rushing Marcos Alonso, who made no mistake in squeezing the rebound inside the left corner of De Gea's goal.

The goal came just before half-time, levelling the scoreboard following Juan Mata's 11th minute opener and very much sucking the wind out of an expectant home fanbase who are currently experiencing their sides's worst form in decades and Manchester United's recent slide in results coincides with the poorest form of De Gea's Old Trafford career.

The multiple-time Manchester United Player of the Year has been uncharacteristically error strewn in recent weeks. As pointed out by Opta, today's mistake was the third time in the last four matches that he has directly been at fault in conceding a goal - as many as he had in his first 123 games for the club.

De Gea has long been linked with a return to Spain and was close to signing a deal with Real Madrid several seasons ago. His contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of next season which could mean his exit at the club could be expedited unless a new deal is hashed out this summer.

His history of heroics as Manchester United's last line of defence over the last seasons speaks for itself but if De Gea does have one eye on a future in La Liga, some fans suggest that it could be time to thank him for his service and send him away to sunnier climes before his contract expires and while a transfer fee can still be squeezed from him.
