mo4ch:>‘Happy St George’s Day!’ tweet PM May & Corbyn … errr it’s next Monday, says Church of England | Mo4ch News

The Church of England has dropped an almighty bombshell on a day that many Englishmen and women, including politicians Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn, thought was St George’s Day, insisting: “you've got the wrong day.”

St George’s Day, a day to celebrate England’s patron saint, a day that should be imprinted in the minds of all good English patriots, or so you’d think.

However, according to the Church of England it would appear the nation has unwittingly made a huge blunder, as St George’s Day will be officially celebrated on Monday, April 29 – not April 23, the traditionally accepted date.

Matthew Salisbury, the Church of England’s national liturgy and worship adviser says the day has been “translated to April 29” to avoid it clashing with Easter week.

It seems PM Theresa May and Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn, along with the majority of the nation didn’t get the memo. The official account of the prime minister tweeted “My warmest wishes to all celebrating” with a short clip of the flag of St George’s Cross flying high above 10 Downing Street.

Corbyn also took to social media on Monday night to wish everyone in England and across the world a “Happy St George’s Day.”

It comes after the Labour Party were forced to apologize on Monday for what they thought was an error uploading a St George’s Day message, one day early, has now turned out to be a week early.

They haven’t been on their own. The British Royal Air Force have joined in with the premature celebrations along with others who have put their own twist on the patron saint’s day, to pay homage to English pop singer George Michael.

Along with England, St George is the patron saint of regions of Portugal and Spain who is said to have died in the Diocletianic Persecution of AD 303.
