A non-league footballer was left lying on the field for more than two hours with a broken arm while players and medical staff waited for an ambulance to take him to hospital.

Truro City's Michael Herve - formerly a youth player at French giants PSG - sustained an agonizing shoulder injury that forced the abandonment of the club's home game against Concord Rangers on Saturday.

The match was abandoned at 4:30pm, but Herve was left lying on the pitch, unable to move, until an ambulance finally arrived at 7:10pm.

Concord Rangers tweeted updates during the incident as Truro officials worked to get help for their player.

The club also tweeted its support for Herve and revealed that they had eventually left the ground at 6:20pm to make the 310-mile journey back to Essex, with Truro's Herve still on the pitch awaiting an ambulance.

Club officials initially tried to get Herve onto a stretcher, but were unable to move the player due to the excruciating pain he was suffering, so it was decided to leave him in the middle of the pitch, with Truro club physio remaining with the player, keeping him warm with jumpers and jackets.

It took the ambulance staff a further 50 minutes before Herve was loaded onto the ambulance and transported to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, which is situated just two miles from Truro's Treyew Road ground.

Despite the length of time Herve was left lying on the pitch in need of medical attention, South Western Ambulance Service insisted their reaction was within their response time targets.
