Three supporters were turned away from Chelsea's Europa League quarter-final tie with Slavia Prague on Thursday after being captured on camera singing a racially abusive song directed at Liverpool's Egyptian forward Mo Salah.
A further three fans have reportedly been identified by the club but failed to report to the Sinobo Stadium in the Czech capital after the video - in which they are easily identifiable - spread quickly on social media in the hours before Thursday evening's kick-off. The video shows several Chelsea supporters singing the chant, which has been slammed by officials from both Chelsea and Salah's club Liverpool.
"Chelsea finds all forms of discriminatory behavior abhorrent," a statement posted to the Chelsea website reads. "Where there is clear evidence of Chelsea season ticket holders or members involved in such behavior, we will take the strongest possible action against them."
This comes just a month after Chelsea officials slammed Dynamo Kiev supporters for racially abusing Callum Hudson-Odoi during the London club's Europa League tie against the Ukrainian side on March 14.
Liverpool, meanwhile, also released a strongly-worded statement condemning the actions of the supporters. It reads: "The video circulating online, showing vile discriminatory chants being aimed at one of our players, is dangerous and disturbing,"
"Already this season, we have seen repulsive discriminatory abuse inside stadiums in England, Europe and across the world; abuse that was captured on devices and put into the public domain. We have also witnessed numerous hateful attacks on social media. This behavior needs to be called out for what it is - unadulterated bigotry."
Salah, who played 19 games for Chelsea between 2014 and 2016, is a devout Muslim and has previously attracted abusive chants from fans based on his religious beliefs.
Anti-discriminatory group Kick It Out also criticized the supporters in the questions, as well as the culture of racial and religious abuse which is rampant among some sections of supporters.
"It's not on the terraces, but it's still a disgrace. We don't want fans like that anywhere near our game," they said.
