Jurgen Klopp’s side will look to continue their positive start to pre-season and there is value is backing them to lead at half-time and full-time
Liverpool’s game with Wigan will be the Reds’ third friendly of the summer, and the second that they will contest in the north west of England.
After traveling to Australia to face Sydney FC almost immediately after the end of the Premier League campaign, Jurgen Klopp’s men enjoyed a few weeks off before returning to training and playing a game against local side Tranmere Rovers on Wednesday night.
Liverpool won both of those games scoring seven goals in total and conceding none, and they will be aiming to continue that positive pre-season form against their League One opponents on Friday evening.
These two sides met in a friendly last July with Liverpool winning 2-0 on that occasion and a similar result could well be on the cards. Wednesday’s win at Tranmere saw Jurgen Klopp field a youthful side although the likes of Roberto Firminho, Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson all started for the Reds.
Expect a similar blend of youth and first team regulars for Friday’s clash at the DW Stadium, and a repeat of the 2-0 scoreline is priced at 15/2 (7.50).
Liverpool to be winning at half-time and full-time meanwhile looks tempting at evens (2.00) and while of course this is simply a friendly match where the result is of little consequence, that seems a generous price for a talented looking Liverpool side against clearly inferior opposition.
Indeed, this will be Wigan’s first friendly of the summer and to that end we can readily expect Liverpool to be sharper, thus strenghthening the argument for backing the Reds to be ahead at both half-time and full-time.
