White House stops short of offering confidence for Priebus – The Hill

The White House on Thursday refused to say whether President Trump has confidence in his own chief of staff, Reince Priebus

“We all serve at the pleasure of the president, and if he gets to a place where that isn’t the case, we’ll let you know,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters in response to a direct question.

Speculation about Priebus’s future in the White House has ramped up ever since Trump hired former hedge fund manager Anthony Scaramucci as his communications director.

The bombastic Scaramucci publicly insinuated Thursday that Priebus is a leaker — citing an incident that was not a leak.

The stunning comments came after he forced out a White House press aide who was close to the chief of staff. Priebus opposed Scaramucci’s appointment.

Both men had previously downplayed their animosity, but Scaramucci on Thursday offered some pointed comments toward the chief of staff and compared their relationship to brothers such as the biblical Cain and Abel.

Sanders downplayed the infighting as healthy competition that Trump enjoys.

“The president likes that type of competition and encourages it,” she said.

She claimed that environment helps encourages better ideas, saying, “Unlike previous administrations this isn’t groupthink.”
