The Bayern Munich midfielder went out in style at the Allianz Arena with a pinpoint pass to Arjen Robben, who finished in customary style

It is the end of an era at Bayern Munich, as both long-serving captain Philipp Lahm and stalwart midfielder Xabi Alonso prepare to hang up their boots following the final game of the season.

The former Spain star may only have been in Germany for a fraction of Lahm’s career but his brilliant passing will nevertheless be sorely missed by Bayern, as a wonderful ball to tee up Arjen Robben proved on Saturday.

La Liga: Can Barca stop Madrid?

Playing his final professional match, Alonso cut open Freiburg’s defence to find the Dutchman just four minutes in.

What followed was a typical Robben strike, the winger cutting in from the right and blasting home to open the scoring.

It could be the final assist of Alonso’s career after three illustrious years with the Bavarians – though you would not rule out the possibility of him adding another before the final whistle is blown.
