A day after being named Kenya’s most influential sporting personality, the 25-year-old was given another honour, this time away from home

Tottenham and Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama has had the unusual tribute of having a street named after him in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

‘Kane and Alli are England’s future’

The 25-year-old attended a local tournament in Ubungo and had the road leading to the Kinesi Stadium christened in his honour.

The former Celtic man has been on holiday in the African state and, 24 hours after being named Kenya’s most influential sportsman, was only too happy to receive this further mark of respect.

He took to Instagram to offer his thanks, stating: “Thank you for the Mayor and all the Ubungo Municipal residents for welcoming me and giving my name to a local road name. I promise to come back with thanks for the hospitality you have shown me. Thank you Tanzania.”

Wanyama enjoyed a highly successful first season with Tottenham after making an £11 million move from Southampton last summer. He played 47 times in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and featured in all but two games as Spurs finished runners-up behind Chelsea in the Premier League.
