House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) remains in serious condition after another surgery on Thursday.
The Louisiana Republican was readmitted to the intensive care unit at MedStar Washington Hospital late Wednesday.
“Congressman Steve Scalise underwent surgery for the management of infection,” the hospital said in a statement provided by his office. “He tolerated the procedure well. He remains in serious condition. We will provide updates as appropriate.”
Scalise was among four victims shot last month when a gunman opened fire at a park in Alexandria, Va., where a group of GOP lawmakers were holding a practice for a charity baseball game.
The No. 3 House Republican was rushed to MedStar Washington Hospital in critical condition after suffering a single gunshot wound to his hip. He underwent three surgeries in the days following the incident.
He was upgraded to fair condition and moved out of the ICU late last month. But he was brought back into the unit on Wednesday amid concerns about infection.
