Colorado Rapids center back Kortne Ford has been named to the MLS homegrown team roster for the 2017 match during the MLS All-Star game festivities, the league announced Wednesday.
Ford, 21, has started eight matches for the Rapids this season and has scored one goal — the game winner against Sporting Kansas City on May 27.
The annual match highlights MLS’ young stars who have come up through clubs’ youth academy systems.
This year’s squad will take on the Chivas de Guadalajara Under-20 team on Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. at Toyota Park in Chicago. The homegrown team will be coached by former U.S. national team star Brian McBride. Former MLS MVP Mike Magee is the team’s assistant coach.
The MLS All-Star game will take place on Aug. 2 at Soldier Field. The MLS stars will face Real Madrid. Rapids’ goalkeeper Tim Howard has been voted to the MLS All-Star team by fans.
