OCEAN CITY, MD — Authorities say they are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found Monday morning on the beach in Ocean City.
At approximately 6:30 a.m., beach-goers alerted city workers that there was a body in the area of Second Street, according to the Ocean City Police Department.
Police identified the woman as Ashley O’Connor, 30, of Plano, Texas, based on preliminary investigation.
The Ocean City Police Department’s forensics team and Maryland State Police crime scene technicians recovered O’Connor’s body from the sand at approximately 4:15 p.m., police reported.
The body has been turned over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which will determine the cause and manner of her death.
Officials did not suspect foul play, according to Delmarva Now, which reported the victim was a woman on vacation with her parents.
“The police investigation is very active and ongoing at this time,” police said after 11:30 a.m.
It did not appear that the victim, who was found in the sand, had been in the water, according to Ocean City Today.
When the victim was discovered by public works crews sweeping the beach Monday morning, her arm and hand were sticking out of the sand, according to The Dispatch.
The section of beach where police were investigating was closed Monday and would possibly be blocked Tuesday as well, ABC reported.
