YOU can’t blame Jaeger O’Meara for stumbling over the words of Hawthorn’s theme song on Friday night, but standing next to retiring great Luke Hodge might not have been the wisest idea.
O’Meara celebrated his 50th game in style with a strong performance in having 25 disposals and 11 tackles against the Bulldogs.

But it was his positioning next to Hodge during the raucous rendition of the song after the game — and his uncertainty with the words — that stood out almost as much.
Adam Cooney laughed about it on Fox Sports this morning saying: “If you don’t know the words, Jaeger, off to the side.”

Incredibly, Friday night was O’Meara’s first win since Round 19, 2014 which came during his time at Gold Coast and before his serious knee injuries.
He has won only 19 of his 50 games so far — including five losses as a Hawthorn player this year — and the win over the Bulldogs was his first in club colours.
“It was important for us to send Hodgey and Gibbo (Josh Gibson) off, they have both been warriors of the footy club,” O’Meara told Channel 7.
“It was really important that we got the win and the way we did it as well was good.
“I knew (Hodgey) was a fierce competitor, but he doesn’t mind having some fun as well.
“I am really happy that I got to play the year with him, I wish he was playing for a few more years.”
O’Meara’s performance on Friday night gave a hint of what the midfielder could achieve next year if his knee issues are gone.
He played only six matches this season, but Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said it had been important for his confidence levels to play the last two games after returning from his injury.
“I think he showed our supporters a bit in the last couple of games, but particularly tonight,” Clarkson said.
