FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu could not hide his delight at the team’s victory at Granada which sealed the club’s 24th league title.
The president, who travelled with the team to Andalusia, feels that the league was more than justified and the squad merited the title for all of their hard work.
“We are very happy with this triumph. We are deserved winners of this league and the players showed that they wanted it.”
The president continued: “We knew that we had to win this game to win the league. It has been a very tough year, with lots of work and a lot of pressure.”
The latest title is the team’s sixth out of the last eight seasons, something which Bartomeu said “demonstrates what Barça have been doing in recent years with a clear style of play”.
The manager Luis Enrique “has done a great job”, Bartomeu stated, before adding his pleasure at the way the team overcame a small hiccup in April to get back on track and win the title.
The team will celebrate the success with an open-top bus parade on Sunday, which the president said “the fans can enjoy the league and give us support for the Copa (del Rey final)”.
