Javier Mascherano: Two titles would equate to a great season

FC Barcelona centre-back Javier Mascherano spoke to ESPN about the challenges that lie ahead for the team between now and the end of the season.

The first big objective comes this Saturday when Barça travel to the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes to face Granada where a win will guarantee the league title.

“It will be a tough game with no margin for error,” said Mascherano. “We are obligated to concentrate fully and we want to avoid any mistake.”

“They (Granada) have nothing to play for and do not have pressure, which may make them calmer. We have to be very careful.”

Barça can claim a domestic double this campaign, with the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla taking place next Sunday. Mascherano says “winning the league and cup would be very important”.

The defender also praised the team spirit: “We have a great squad, with incredible people. We always have it clear in our minds that we are going out there as a team and we must continue working as a unit.”

Despite letting a big lead at the top of the table slip in recent months, Mascherano sees the positive side.

“If at the beginning of the season we were told that we would have our fate in our own hands on the final day, we would have taken it without a doubt.”
