Huge Tim Hardaway offer sends Knicks fans into meltdown – New York Post

In 2013, the Knicks drafted Tim Hardaway Jr. with the 24th overall pick in the draft. After two seasons in New York, the team traded Hardaway to Atlanta as part of a three-team swap in which they received a first-round pick that would become point guard Jerian Grant. Grant was then traded to the Chicago Bulls as part of the trade that brought Derrick Rose.

The Knicks then took the salary-cap space they would get from letting Rose walk as a free agent … and signed Hardaway Jr. to a $71 million offer sheet in free agency on Wednesday night. The Hawks reportedly were set to offer Hardaway $45 million to stay, but now will have to pony up significantly more to keep him in Atlanta.

If that sequence of events sounds poorly thought out to you, don’t worry, you’re not alone. #KnicksTwitter was ablaze Thursday night as fans found out about the offer sheet and saw contracts of free agencies past flash before their eyes. Phil Jackson may be gone as team president, but the quintessential Knicks experience seems to be staying the same.
