Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday afternoon with an ACL injury to his knee, reportedly suffered and played through last Monday night when the Buccaneers faced the Carolina Panthers. The injury will end Jackson’s season.
Jackson’s 2016 struggles
The most veteran receiver on Tampa Bay’s roster had struggled throughout the season, mirroring the struggle of his team. The 33-year old was targeted on 31 throws, but only reeled in 15 of them for 173 yards. He failed to get into the end zone and was steadily receiving less attention in the passing game from his quarterback, Jameis Winston.
This season stands in stark contrast to Jackson’s previous career outputs, marking a steady decline for the aging receiver. He has made three Pro Bowl appearances in his career with the Buccaneers and the San Diego Chargers, and has nearly 10,000 career receiving yards.
