Artists Set to Wear White Roses at the Grammys in Support of Time's Up Movement

The end of 2017 saw the harsh reality of sexual harassment in Hollywood come to light, and as we move into the new year — allegations have not stopped. Though this has been a difficult time for many, one beacon of hope has been the #MeToo/Time’s Up movement.

As seen on social media, the #MeToo movement has given women (and men) a platform to share their experiences with sexual assault and/or harassment. That, and the reassurance they are not alone in their fight.

Most recently, the Golden Globes gave Hollywood an incredible platform to show support for victims. (Most) celebrities in attendance wore black in a move reportedly organized by Meryl Streep. While some thought the gesture to be quite admirable, many still thought it was simply not enough. Take James Franco, for example — though he did win Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for playing Tommy Wiseau in The Disaster Artist, his victory was overlooked by his own hypocrisy. To wear a “Time’s Up” pin (considering his past) shows that participating in a fashion statement is not enough to fix this problem in Hollywood.

With the Grammys just a few days away, it seems as though Hollywood is set to make yet another fashion statement to show solidarity for the Time’s Up movement. As first reported by Billboard, “the planned demonstration was put together by Roc Nation Senior VP Meg Markins and Karen Rait, rhythmic promotion at Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records, after realizing that “Music’s Biggest Night” was coming without any plan in place to show support for the movement against sexual harassment.” The white rose was ultimately chosen because, “it is a practical and traditional accessory with a symbolic color.”
